2008 2nd Regional Forum on IHL

On August 2006, the Philippine National Red Cross (PNRC) hosted the first ever South East Asia (SEA) Forum on IHL which was attended by nine (9) National Societies (NS), the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (the Federation). The Conference resulted in the drafting of the Manila Action Plan (MAP) on IHL which details the role of each participating component of the Movement.

For 2008, after consulting ICRC and other possible hosts, it was agreed that the conference will be held again in the Philippines on 10 -12 August 2008 and expand the invitation to nearby countries outside SEA. However, it is foreseen that this gathering will be held biennially and other National Societies will agree to host the event.

The general objective of the forum is to provide NS in the region a venue to discuss ways to improve and strengthen the role of NS in the implementation, advocacy and respect for IHL in coordination with their respective governments.
