Philippine National Red Cross (PNRC) Chairman Senator Richard Gordon and PNRC volunteers met an accident around 1:15 p.m. at barangay Aningway, Subic, Zambales today.
Gordon was on his way to Botolan, Zambales to visit the victims of the flashfloods housed in seven (7) evacuation centers and to check the damaged dike that needs immediate repair.
He was with a PNRC team on board six (6) cars in a convoy with other Subic volunteers to deliver relief goods to the affected families.
In a report from PNRC Operation Center, Gordon’s Toyota Fortuner was behind a truck containing relief goods while the second vehicle, a Toyota Revo, was following it.
When Gordon’s Fortuner has overtaken the truck of relief goods, it accidentally hit the said truck while the Toyota Revo smashed into the rear of the Fortuner.
Four PNRC volunteers were immediately brought to James Gordon Memorial Hospital for further medication namely Jeffrey Paano, Cenon Constantino, Rene Lobo and Joel Anglo.
Paano, Constanstino and Lobo were safe and are now under observation while Anglo suffered from Hematoma due to head injury and was operated earlier.
According to the doctors of James Gordon Memorial Hospital, Anglo was in critical condition acquiring major injuries due to the force of the impact and he was thrown out of the windshield. He is now in the hospital's ICU for further clinical observation, the Operation Center reported.
Meanwhile, Gordon was deeply saddened by the mishap that his group encountered and expressed his desire for the immediate recovery of his staff.
“We never expected that our lives will be put into danger while we are on a way to deliver relief goods in Botolan, Zambales. Let us pray for the immediate recovery of Joel. He was operated earlier,” said Gordon.
