The people of Port-Au-Prince, Haiti are suffering in the aftermath of their country’s most devastating earthquake recorded history. The International Red Cross estimated 45,000 to 50,000 dead in the cataclysmic catastrophe, also leaving major infrastructures devastated. Last January 13, Wednesday, Haiti experienced a catastrophic 7.0-magnitude tremor earthquake.
Uncounted corpses and dust-caked bodies sprawled in the streets of the city reduced to rubbles. Survivors fight over water and food supply, despite help coming from international parties.
Philippine Red Cross is in the process of conducting restoring family links programs, to re-establish connections between family members based here in the Philippines and those that are based in Haiti.
Retrieval and relief operations are expected to follow the catastrophe. Let us be reminded of the help extended to us from various countries and organizations upon the lashing of typhoons Ondoy and Pepeng. Our fellowmen from Haiti are in need of great help. Cash donations, which would be directed to relief, retrieval and rehabilitation efforts are much appreciated.
