The Misamis Occidental-Oroquieta City-Tangub City Chapter underwent 2 statuses before it became an independent Chapter. From 1947-1949, it was a sub-office from 1950 to 1952 a sub-chapter. Finally in 1953, the Chapter was chartered and was known up to 1970 as Misamis Occidental Red Cross. Then Last October 23, 1984, the Chapter nomenclature was changed to Misamis Occidental-Oroquieta City Chapter’s as Tangub City gained also their independence on the same date. The first Board of Directors was headed by Santiago Dizon, with the support of other officer, namely; Antonio Pinero,Vice Chairman, Concepcion C. Blanco, Secretary and Rosario Zaldivar as the treasurer with the following members; Cayetano Hernandez, Nazario Froilan, Jose Lomontod, Felisicimo S. solito,Diosdado Bacolod, Leonardo Oteyza, Gideon Quijano, Porferio Villarin, Juan Ratunil Quimsuan and Felomino D. Pacana.
The Chapter Office building is located at the Capitol Compound, Oroquieta City, Misamis Occidental. The 2-storey building was constructed in 1974 thru the financial aid given the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office with the able assistance of the Provincial Government of Misamis Occidental thru the efforts of the Governor, former Assemblyman Henry Y. Regalado who donated the lot.
Since its inception the Chapter worked very hard in its present status because the Province of Misamis Occidental is a cocal area and its inhabitants depend largely on firm products thus fund raising was very hard. Various fund raising vehicles was being adopted thus launching the Alay Lakad para sa Krus na Pula to stir awareness among the people. The brainchild is the working Chairman Vice Mayor Lemuel Meyrick M. Acosta. His second term as Chairman of the Board, commitment to serve humanity on top of his priorities.
Blood Services- The Chapter is a recipient of Blood Refrigerator from the Department of Health in 1998 that helped in the upgrading scheme of blood services especially in the intensifications campaign for voluntary blood donors. The Chapter catered to patients coming from the Province of Misamis Occidental and the City of Oroquieta who needs the precious fluids. Annual Blood Donors month is observed also sponsored by the Senior Demolay of Oroquieta City Chapter, giving awards to Blood galloners and some sector of the society who helped in the promotion of Blood Services.
Disaster Management Services- One of the most massive relief operations undertaken by the Chapter was for the victims of typhoon Titang in 1970 and the tribal unrest in Cotabato wherein displaced families poured into Misamis Occidental. In early 70’ and late 80’s insurgency problem was prominent in the province thus the PNRC-ICRC joint relief assistance program for the displaced families made the Red Cross very popular then. Isolated cases of fired and other natural calamities were also served. In 2000 was the formal formation of Red Cross Emergency Response Team (RCERT) whose majority members are professionals. Since then they are on the front line during disasters like the recent series of fires that hit the City of Oroquieta in 2004 and 2005. Recipient of DMS materials for crisis situations. Trained additional 3 volunteers in Disaster Response Team at Cagayan de Oro City, last April 2005.
Safety Services- has successfully conducted 3rd Summer Safety Camp whose aims is to train participants in First Aid and Basic Life support to some selected RCY members and to barangay leaders, since its launching last, 2002. Consistently teaching safety education to students, barangay people, NGO’s. It helped generate income for the Chapter by conducting standard First Aid Training and Basic Life supporting to health providers with registration fees collected and membership with health benefits.
Social Services- established linkage to other cooperating agencies by referrals. Assisted in the PNRC-ICRC joint medical assistance to internally displace persons (IDP’S).
Red Cross Youth- The Chapter has a well-established Red Cross Youth Organization under the Chairmanship of Mr. Jesus Epimito O. Suico (DepEd Master teacher), early 70’ the Chapter under this program used to have search for Miss Red Cross Youth that generated modest income for the Chapter. Last August 27, 2005 after 3 years in absence the 24th Chapter Youth Convention was successfully undertaken with more or less 500 participants coming from the different school councils of the Province and City of Oroquieta both the Junior/secondary and the tertiary levels. Under this program the 4th Province Wide Camp was held early this year. This year also a Youth center was established at the Chapter’s office. One of the pre-requisites before you are enrolled as members of the Red Cross Youth councils is to undergo Basic Leadership Training and must pay his/her membership fee with health benefits. Basic Leadership training is also extended to barangay levels. International Humanitarian Law is also included in the teaching of our young as well as to the barangay people. The biggest achievements and honor the chapter has received under this program was when Glen T. Quilab who spearheaded all this activities was proclaimed as one of the Ten Most Outstanding Red Cross Youth Nationwide in 2004 in a filling ceremony at the NHQ last October 28, 2005.
The same year also wherein the Chapter Over-subscribed its Budgetary requirements under the Chairmanship of Vice-Mayor Lemuel Meyrick M. Acosta.
Slowly but efficiently the Chapter is working hard to consistently on top-shape condition be in service delivery and resource generations.
