Typhoon Karen

Philippine Red Cross (PRC) volunteers displayed their preparedness through preemptive measures and swift emergency responses on the areas affected by Typhoon Karen.

Based on PRC’s monitoring, typhoon Karen had affected 102 municipalities, 200 barangays, and an estimated 9,737 families and 43,311 individuals from the provinces such as Aurora, Nueva Ecija, Bulacan, Batangas, and the Bicol Region. Some 13,499 individuals were brought to 87 evacuation centers in their respective areas.

PRC Chairman Richard Gordon commended PRC chapters as well as Red Cross 143 volunteers for their prompt response and preemptive efforts and thereby lessening what could have been a much worse scenario.

To date, the 218 staff and volunteers of PRC have rescued 18 individuals and have assisted 53 from Lanao to Capitol and Gogon, Centro in Catanduanes. Volunteers have also assisted first aid response to approximately 2 individuals in Catanduanes and Camarines Norte. PRC has also set up Welfare Desk in various evacuation centers where an estimated 1,426 hot meals were distributed and 13 individuals were given psychosocial support. Also, standard food items and tarpaulins for temporary shelter were distributed.

PRC is still continuously conducting assessment on affected areas, especially in Aurora where more than 3,000 houses are damaged. PRC operation teams are still on standby and ready to deliver assistance to areas affected by typhoon Karen. For your donations, you may deposit to the following accounts:
