New Red Cross Batangas City Chapter Branch Building inaugurated

The Philippine Red Cross will inaugurate today (June 7 2012), the new Red Cross building of Lipa City branch of Batangas City Red Cross Chapter, for PRC to do more, do better and reach further to the people of the province.

The two-story building located on P. Laygo Street, Sabang, was loaned to PRC for 25 years by Rotary Club of Lipa, according to Ronald Generoso local Red Cross Chapter administrator. This is the second branch of the chapter. The first branch is in the municipality of Rosario.

The inauguration will be led by PRC Chairman Richard J. Gordon, PRC Secretary General Gwendolyn Pang,Batangas Governor Vilma Santos, officers of the Rotary Club of Lipa City and other local government officials.

Gordon thanked the Rotary Club for their support and said the new building will be a big help for the people of Lipa who will now have faster and easier access to the services of Red Cross.

"We need to get Red Cross closer to the people, especially in times of disasters and other emergencies," Gordon said.

Gordon noted that with Batangas Red Cross chapter located in Batangas City, it will not be easy to reach out to 31 municipalities and three cities covering 1,078 barangays.

Gordon stressed however, that because of the Red Cross 143 volunteers in every barangay which the chapter was able to recruit and trained, Red Cross managed to respond on time to the urgent needs of the people.

Red Cross 143 is the flagship volunteer program of the PRC that recruits and trains 44 volunteers in every barangay – one leaders and 43 members to serve as humanitarian arms of the Red Cross on the ground.

Batangas Red Cross, one of the premier chapters of PRC, is also one of the most successful chapters in promoting Red Cross 143 program in the province.

Generoso said that with the new branch in Lipa City,recruitment of 143 Volunteers will also be faster now.
