Red Cross chapters step up preparations for "Katring" As tropical depression "Katring" enters the Philippine Area of Responsibility, the Philippine Red Cross (PRC) sounded the call for its chapters in Northern and Central Luzon to take appropriate action to mitigate the effect of this latest weather disturbance. There are 23 PRC chapters in key cities in Northern and Central Luzon that act as frontliners of the organization's humanitarian services primarily in disaster preparedness, prevention, mitigation, relief and response. Food and non-food items are prepared ahead by PRC chapters and the national headquarters before this tropical depression makes a landfall in Luzon. Disaster response equipment including rubber boats, ambulances, water and sanitation, generators, tower lights, and amphibians are also prepositioned to provinces that can possibly be hit by the tropical depression. The PRC Operation Center receives information from its chapters. It processes facts and figures from the field to make necessary recommendations to the management and board of governors on PRC response to particular disasters and emergency situations. |
