PRC asks everyone to take proper precautions against Bird Flu Virus Seven years after the outbreak of 1997 avian influenza or bird flu virus in Hong Kong, which caused the death of 6 people, yet another case of the aforementioned disease has been reported in the said country. Last Wednesday (November 17), Hong Kong Health Secretary York Cho has confirmed that a 59-year-old woman was tested positive for H5N1 bird flu virus. Reportedly, the said disease was diagnosed after the old woman returned to Hong Kong after her trip from the Chinese mainland. Hong Kong is among the Filipinos' most visited tourist spots; and in line with this, Philippine Red Cross (PRC) Secretary General Gwendolyn Pang herself asked everyone to take proper precautions against this rather serious virus. "As the old, yet most effective saying goes: 'prevention is better than cure,'" she uttered.
