AlDub fans donate blood to Red Cross

Supporters of popular television loveteam AlDub showed up at the Philippine Red Cross (PRC) National Blood Center in EDSA corner Boni Avenue in Mandaluyong, on Sunday, October 11, to donate blood. The bloodletting activity yielded blood units that can benefit more than 195 patients.

The blood donation campaign likewise trended on Twitter last Sunday, with 479,263 tweets for the hashtag #ALDUBRedCross. The hashtag was on the top trend from 6 AM until 1:30PM.

“Salamat po sa AlDubNation sa malasakit for organizing and supporting the blood donation drive of the Philippine Red Cross,” tweeted PRC chairman Richard Gordon.

Members of the group ALDUB Bayanihan, which is part of the AlDub Nation fan base, organized the activity in partnership with the PRC. Several fan groups were also present to show their unity in their “bayanihan” initiative.

Gordon and PRC secretary general Gwendolyn Pang were both present during the blood donation to show their support to the fans of Alden Richards and Maine Mendoza aka Yaya Dub, who make up the AlDub loveteam.

The Red Cross leaders further commended the fans of Richards and Mendoza, from whom the idea of a blood donation project originated.

“The organizers themselves approached the PRC to present their willingness to donate blood to show that they are not mere fans but also humanitarians who are willing to give a little of themselves for the benefit of their suffering countrymen,” said Gordon.

“Natutuwa ako na sa pamamagitan ng kasiyahan ay nakakatulong kayo sa pagligtas ng buhay dahil sa inyong dugo na ipinagkaloob sa Philippine Red Cross,” Gordon said to the fans of AlDub.
